Succulent Plants?

Have you guys heard about succulent before? If not, what do you guys imagine in your mind when heard about succulent? Is succulent a kind of snacks, savoury or a type of perfume shop? Nay, all of it are wrong. Based on Encyclopedia Britannica, succulent means any plant with fleshy and thick tissues adapted to water storage. Some succulents (e.g., cacti) store water only in the stem and have no leaves or very small leaves (thorn), whereas others (e.g., agaves) store water mainly in the leaves. The word “succulent” comes from the Latin word sucus, meaning juice or sap. The succulents enable to survive on limited water resources, such as dew and mist, making them more tolerant of drought.

There are a variety of succulent plants. The main cultivated plants are mainly the genus of
lotus palmatum, cyanodon, stone lotus, ground root and sedum, aloe and twelve genera in the lily family, halberd family, agave family and stellera family, and the genus of stone flower in the family of apricot. There are also some species of compositae, bromeliaceae, purslane and grapeae. Cloisonaceae plants like warm, light, suitable for good drainage soil, cuttings or plant propagation, winter temperature should be more than 5 ~ 10℃, many are arranged rock garden good materials, also suitable for potted; Liliaceae plants require sufficient sunshine and keep cool in winter and half-shade in summer. Plants of euphorbia need sufficient sunshine, good ventilation, not cold, high temperature, drought and waterlogging. Agave plants like sunshine, cultivation should use fertilizer soil, winter to keep cool and dry and 8 ~ 10℃ temperature conditions; Apricot plants like warm, not cold, like dry ventilation, winter overwintering temperature above 10℃.

Succulents love direct sun, and it will lean towards the sun, so rotating them will help them stand up straight. Next,  choose a container with drainage to plant succulents. Succulents don’t like to sit in waterlogged soil, so drainage is important to prevent rot. Lastly when watering it, you should water it directly to the soil. When you water your succulents, soak the soil until water runs out of the drainage holes.
